Tear Sage

Tear sage is one of the most mysterious plants coveted in the world of memorizers and alchemists. The sage preferably grows where grief and hope have long lingered side by side – on scarcely trodden thresholds, before doors of inhabited houses where silent suffering prevails or in the shadowy edges of chambers whose occupants waver between despair and confidence. Its silvery-green leaves shine as if always covered with fine moisture, while the strong stems carry small, crystal-clear drops at the leaf joints, which are regarded as a trademark and give the tear sage its name.

In the surroundings where tear sage thrives, the air is heavy and oppressive – a silence that equally dampens the emotions of the inhabitants and envelops those who stay in it too long. This characteristic makes the terrain a place of inner contemplation, but it also harbors danger, for the atmosphere can gradually induce a paralyzing melancholy or depressive states that slowly nestle into mind and body.

The small drops at the leaf joints are far more than mere dew or plant sap. They store unspoken tears and concentrated emotions of the past, which the plant absorbs and conserves. By mere touch, these drops can quickly transfer to living beings and trigger a sudden, overwhelming sadness that is often accompanied by lasting, severe depression and sustainably shakes the emotional balance.

Because of this strong effect, harvesting tear sage requires utmost caution and is a delicate, dangerous art. The drops should never be collected hastily or carelessly but demand patience, fine extraction tools and a deep understanding of the plant and the feelings it holds, with the harvest always carried out with a heart full of compassion. Only when the liquid is carefully extracted can the plant itself be harvested without unnecessary risks.

In alchemical practice, tear sage is considered a key to intensifying and clarifying deep emotional processes. A decoction of its leaves and drops can unravel tangled memories of guilt, loss or hope, often revealing hidden insights and exposing the shadowed secrets of the soul. Yet, at the same time, one is warned against using the sage without humility, for those unaware of its power risk losing themselves in melancholy or longing.
